A blazer that took a nonna to the wedding

Noa came to us with a blue blazer they already loved. It was deep in colour and cleanly cut, a jacket that had been to plenty of occasions and always held its own. But a wedding was coming, the wedding of a close friend, and a good blazer didn't feel like quite enough.

The friend's family has a story woven into fabric. Their nonna ran a textile brand in Bologna, and the family still keeps many of the original tessuti, each one printed with the brand's logo. Noa had a thought that wouldn't go away: what if the blazer could arrive at the wedding carrying a piece of that history?

So Noa went through the fabrics and chose three: a black one with a soft shimmer and flashes of colour, a warm golden ochre, and a pale cream.

We began by drawing the flowers digitally, cutting and arranging the three fabrics on screen until the shapes felt right. Then we brought them to the jacket. A dark rose with its stem and leaves rises beside the chest pocket, next to a full golden bloom. A cream flower opens on the sleeve and curves around to the back of the arm, so it appears when Noa moves. The logo sits inside each petal, small enough to be discovered slowly.

The blue stayed exactly as it was. It only needed something to bloom against.

At the wedding, Noa wore their own blazer, now carrying three fabrics and a name from Bologna. Anyone who knew the brand would recognise it at once. Anyone who didn't would still sense that the jacket held a story. It was a way of bringing the nonna to the celebration, quietly, in the most personal way a garment can.

For us, this is what redesign means. Sometimes a garment doesn't need to become something else. It needs to carry someone with it.
